Inherited from Proto-Turkic *āgïŕ (mouth). Cognate with Chuvash ҫӑвар (śăvar), Khalaj âğız, Turkish ağız (mouth), Uzbek ogʻiz, Bashkir ауыҙ (awıź), Tuvan аас (aas).
