Inherited from Proto-Turkic *āgïŕ (“mouth”). Cognate with Chuvash ҫӑвар (śăvar), Khalaj âğız, Turkish ağız (“mouth”), Uzbek ogʻiz, Bashkir ауыҙ (awıź), Tuvan аас (aas).
