Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yēl (“mane”). Cognate with Chuvash ҫилхе (śilh̬e), Turkish yele, Uzbek yol, Bashkir ял (yal), Yakut сиэл (siel). Compare also Mongolian дэл (del), Manchu ᡩᡝᠯᡠᠨ (delun) and Persian یال (yâl).
