From 𐰘𐰨𐰇 (yinčü, pearl) +‎ 𐰇𐰏𐰔 (ögüz, river), literally Pearl River, likely a calque of Middle Persian origin, whence also Ancient Greek Ἰᾰξᾰ́ρτης (Iaxártēs). More at Syr Darya.
