Glyph origin[edit]

A crouching depiction of the Egyptian desert hare (Lepus capensis aegyptius), called sẖꜥt. The use of the hare as a phonogram for wn could derive from an ancient epithet of ‘runner’ for the hare. Compare the Chinese character .
