Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From -a (recent/distant past imperfective suffix) +‎ -tö (distant past non-third-person plural suffix) +‎ -kene (distant past imperfective suffix).

Pronunciation[edit]

Suffix[edit]

-a'kene

  1. Forms the plural of the distant past imperfective tense when both the agent and patient (if there is one) of the verb are first- or second-person.

Usage notes[edit]

This suffix can cause syllable reduction. The suffix takes the form -ka'kene when the preceding syllable is reducible and has an onset of k, -ya'kene when the preceding syllable ends in i, and -a'kene in other contexts.
