-cina f (noun-forming suffix, plural -cine)

  1. Alternative form of -ina
    canzone (song) + ‎-cina → ‎bastoncina (little song, ditty)
    corona (crown) + ‎-cina → ‎coroncina (small crown, coronet)
    porta (door) + ‎-cina → ‎porticina (small door)
    parte (part) + ‎-cina → ‎particina (bit part, minor acting role)

Usage notes[edit]

  • Originally used with feminine terms ending in -n, -ne or -na. Sometimes used with other (usually feminine) terms, in place of -ina.
  • See also -cino and -ino for masculine equivalents.
