Either adé (royalty, crown) +‎ ṣí (to open) +‎ ọ̀nà (path, road), literally Royalty has opened the way or a- (agent prefix) +‎ (to arrive) +‎ ṣí (to meet) +‎ ọ̀nà (joy), literally The one who comes and opens the way, usually given to the first child born to a family (who "opens" the way for more children to follow).
