Borrowed from Hindustani آفریدی (āfredī) / आफ़्रीदी (āfrīdī), from Pashto اپريدی (Apriday).

Afridi (plural Afridis)

  1. A member of a Pashtun tribe.
    • 1855, Henry George Raverty, A grammar of the Pukhto, Pushto, or language of the Afgháns, page v:
      A certain Afridi being desirous to learn to read, went into a village to a Mulla and said to him, that it would be a great favour if he would give him lessons.
