Etymology[edit]
First attested as S. Agneeten dale in 1570. Compound of the genetive form of Agnes (“a personal name”) and dal (“dale, valley”). Named after Saint Agnes of Rome, the patron of a former monastery which once stood near the current neighbourhood.
