Borrowed from Hindi अहीर (ahīr), from Sanskrit आभीर (ābhīra).

Ahir (plural Ahirs or Ahir)

  1. A member of a clan or community, mostly in northern India, whose traditional occupations are cattle-herding and agriculture, and many of whom identify themselves as Yadav.
