Verbal nouns[edit]

Discuss Verbal Nouns ending in vowels, e.g., aitriú, éirí Marcas.oduinn (talk) 22:03, 29 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

They aren't fourth-declension, though, since the genitive singular is different from the nominative. But maybe it should be mentioned that they aren't fourth declension despite ending in a vowel. —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 19:42, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback, clarification added. Marcas.oduinn (talk) 09:39, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Dative plural[edit]

The other appendices seem to refer to the (Archaic?) dative plural. Do so here too? Marcas.oduinn (talk) 22:41, 29 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sure, why not? —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 19:42, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Will do! Marcas.oduinn (talk) 09:40, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Which Old Irish stems and genders became fourth declension[edit]

For example, aigne is from aicned, neuter o-stem Marcas.oduinn (talk) 00:01, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

aicned Marcas.oduinn (talk) 00:03, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think it's a mixture of various types, but probably the primary source is the io- and iā-stems like céile, daltae (> dalta), cride (> croí), guide (> guí), ungae (> uinge). —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 19:42, 30 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Initial mutations[edit]

The other appendices do not discuss initial mutations (other than vocative). Should they at least be mentioned? Marcas.oduinn (talk) 08:07, 31 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

They have their own appendix at Appendix:Irish mutations. Nothing about mutations is specific to declension class in Irish, is it? I'm pretty sure all declension classes mutate the same way. —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 09:21, 31 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

That's right. Maybe just a reference. Marcas.oduinn (talk) 09:43, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Link to weak and strong plurals[edit]

The other appendices detail the properties of weak and strong plurals, which I I've copied here. Should we also provide an appropriate reference link? Marcas.oduinn (talk) 08:30, 31 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Such as? —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 09:21, 31 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

... I haven't found one! Marcas.oduinn (talk) 09:44, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Duplication of pages[edit]

Other pages on Wiki (in general; but maybe not Wiktionary?) have detailed information about Irish declensions (and grammar in general). I think I've added value with the lists, but I don't want to duplicate. Any thoughts? Marcas.oduinn (talk) 08:33, 31 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

We can always link to Wikipedia articles in order to avoid duplication. —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 09:22, 31 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
