Etymology[edit]

Potentially attested as aschendorpe in pago isloi in the middle of the 11th century, attested with certainty as van aschendorpe in 1403. Compound of Old Dutch Asko (a personal name) and dorp (farmstead, settlement). Formerly an independent hamlet.
