  1. (international standards, obsolete) Former ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country code for the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1974 to 1992.
    Synonyms: BY (alpha-2), BLR (1992–present, as Belarus)

Usage notes[edit]

Despite being part of the Soviet Union, the Byelorussian SSR was granted a code on the first publication of ISO 3166 in 1974 due to being a member of the United Nations.
