Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as baddaf and badaf in 1372. Etymology unknown. A proposed derivation from Middle Dutch bet af (backwards, further back) does not match causes phonological difficulties. See also Groot-Bedaf and Klein-Bedaf.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈbɛ.dɑf/
  • Hyphenation: Bed‧af

Proper noun[edit]

Bedaf n

  1. A hamlet in Maashorst, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands.
