Burgundy pitch (usually uncountable, plural Burgundy pitches)

  1. (historical or obsolete) A yellowish-brown resinous substance prepared from the exudation of the Norway spruce by melting in hot water and straining through cloth. It was formerly used in medicinal plasters.
