Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Albanian Burrel, probably from bërryl (elbow) (from Proto-Albanian *bōrei ulnā, compound of *bōrei (bow) and *ulnā (forearm)), which could refer to the bend in the national road SH6 as it goes through the town centre.
