Etymology[edit]

In Surrey, originally named Cambridge Town in 1862 after the Duke of Cambridge. Camberley was coined in 1877 at the behest of the Post Office, presumably to avoid confusion with the Cambridgeshire city. The place in New Zealand would have been named after the Surrey town.
