Category:Ojibwe adjectives

Ojibwe does not have adjectives per se. Meanings that in English are expressed through adjectives can often be expressed using verbs.

For example, the English sentence It is black is expressed using the verb makadewaa if the subject is inanimate, or makadewizi if the subject is animate. Both verbs contain the root makadew- (black) and a verb final.

A similar phenomenon is seen in nouns, such as in makadewigwan (black feather), which contains the same root, but with a noun final.
