1.) I'm sure this is a general question, not just for German. But is there a way to get a word into this category without having to use the word "borrowing" in the text? Being forced to do this is very unhandy since you may want to use the wording "borrowed" instead of "borrowing", or even not use the word at all (for whatever reason).

2.) Another question is how we use the word "borrowing" in the specific German context. Is a Low German word borrowed? Is a dialectal word borrowed? (From say Swiss German or Ripuarian?) You could of course say so, but it doesn't really reflect the history of how standard German came into being. Low German and High German dialects have been a genuine part of this process, they have not been foreign languages providing words "from the outside".

I don't currently pay regard to this category in the etymologies I add, but if were to, this question would have to be clear. (Or is there already an agreement on it?) Kolmiel (talk) 19:18, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
