Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek χρυσός (khrusós, gold) (already Mycenaean Greek 𐀓𐀬𐀰 (ku-ru-so)), Semitic loan, compare with Biblical Hebrew חָרוּץ (ḥārūṣ), Akkadian 𒆬𒄀 (ḫurāṣu [KUG.SIG17]).[1]
