A common Chinese Filipino surname. Ultimately from Hokkien (Gô͘), via Hispanicization of the Chinese surname (Gô͘) by similar sounding calque of Hokkien (gǒ͘, five) to Spanish cinco (five). Another derivation is (sin ko, literally new brother).
