Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *Kolęta (personal name) + *-ina (denominative suffix).

Folk etymology ascribes it as being derived from "colea-n-tină" ("there, in the mud"), as this was allegedly the answer of a spătar to Matei Basarab, who asked the former where he had defeated the Ottoman army.

Proper noun[edit]
