Etymology[edit]

From English Cyrillic, from the name Cyril + -ic, from Late Latin Cȳrillus, from Ancient Greek Κῡ́ρῐλλος (Kū́rillos). Named after Saint Cyril, who devised a predecessor to Cyrillic script, the Glagolitic alphabet.

Some letters were trimmed from "Cyrillic", in accordance with the four-letter format in ISO 15924.
