  • (Zuid-Holland) First attested as totter donck toe in 1383. Derived from Middle Dutch donc (sandy hill protruding above a marsh).
  • (Noord-Brabant) Derived from donk (sandy hill protruding above a swamp). The names of the neighbourhood's streets all contain the element donk.
