- (Overijssel) First attested as thelden in 1036. Etymology uncertain. Possible etymologies include a derivation from a term cognate to Old Norse dæld (“small depression in the landscape”) or a derivation from a term cognate to Old Norse þel (“ground, soil”) with collectivising suffix *-iþi.
