Etymology[edit]
From Scottish Gaelic deoradh (“pilgrim, stranger”), an occupational surname for a custodian of holy relics. It could also be an habitational surname, from Dewar, Scottish Borders. The flask is named for James Dewar, who is credited with its invention.
