Etymology[edit]

Old Basque name, first recorded in 1062, and probably composed of the word ene (mine, my) and the diminutive suffix -ko, hence "my little one." The first Basque king of Pamplona was Eneko Aritza (compare haritz (oak)), also known as Eneko the Oak.
