  • Botanists differ as to whether E. vesicaria and E. sativa are distinct taxa and, if they are distinct, whether E. sativa should be treated as a subspecies of E. vesicaria, E. v. subsp. sativa. Thus any of these taxa may be used in reference to the plants and the products of the plants.
