From earlier Fárão. Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese Faaron, from Arabic هَارُون (hārūn), from Hebrew אהרן (Ahărōn, “Aaron”).[1] Doublet of Aarão. The city was named after a local Moorish qadi.
