Alemannic German[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle High German gedæhtnisse, from Old High German githēhtnissi (thoughts (about something)). Equivalent to gedaacht (past participle of denke (to think)) +‎ -nis (ness). Cognate with German Gedächtnis, Luxembourgish Gediechtnes.
