Etymology[edit]
Three possible origins:
- An English topographic surname for someone who farmed a productive piece of land, from Middle English good (“good”) + aker (“acre, field”).
- An English habitational surname from a minor place in Devon, from Middle English goot (“goat”) + aker (“acre, field”).
- An Americanized spelling of the German surname Gutacker, from gut (“good”) + Acker (“field”).
