Lexicalized version of -N-O-, the fingerspelling of English no.

Production[edit]

  • This one-handed ASL sign is produced usually shaking the head from side to side:
    1. Posture the dominant hand in the “G” handshape but extend the middle finger alongside the index finger, about half an arm’s length in front of the shoulder, palm facing forward.
    2. Close the thumb, index, and middle finger one or more times.
    3. Posture the dominant hand in a handshape where the thumb pad touches the pads of the index finger and middle finger, and the other fingers are curled to the palm (similar to the “Flat O” handshape) about half an arm’s length in front of the shoulder, palm facing forward.
