Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
First attested as hedereke in 1188. Etymology uncertain. Potential etymologies include a derivation from Old Dutch Hadurik (“a personal name”), a derivation from a collectivised form of hederik (“charlock (Rhamphospermum arvense, syns. Sinapis arvensis, etc.)”) and a compound derivation from heide (“heath, heathland”) and Middle Dutch reke (“boundary”).
