Etymology 2[edit]

  • (Noord-Brabant) First attested as Hofstad in 1838-1857. Derived from hofstad (farmstead, homestead).
  • (Utrecht) Derived from the toponym Westrummerhofstad (a former village), a compound of the toponym Westrum (derived in turn from Middle Dutch wester (western, west-) and heem (home, settlement)) and hovestat (homestead). As the neighbourhood is located in the southeast of Houten, it was decided to drop the element Westrummer.
