Attested 15th century as gardyn, from Middle Dutch gordine, from Old French cortine. Cognate with German Gardine (standard 17th c.), Dutch gordijn, French courtine, which last might have influenced the Moselle Franconian forms in K-. Compare dated Luxembourgish Karténg.
