Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested as Kinckhoven in 1803-1820. Difficult to interpret due to a paucity of old attestations. Potentially a compound of Old Dutch Kindo (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix Old Dutch -ing- and the dative plural form of hof (farmstead, homestead).

See also Limburgish Kinkhaove.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈkɪŋkˌɦoː.və(n)/
  • Hyphenation: Kink‧ho‧ven

Proper noun[edit]

Kinkhoven n

  1. A hamlet in Leudal, Limburg, Netherlands.
