From Old Frisian klokke, from Middle Low German klocke, from Medieval Latin clocca, probably of Celtic origin, from Proto-Celtic *klokkos (bell) (compare Welsh cloch, Irish clog), from Proto-Indo-European *klēg-, *klōg- (onomatopoeia).
