Etymology[edit]

Calque of Serbo-Croatian Skadarsko jezero, Скадарско језеро, from Skadar, Скадар + -sko, -ско + jȅzero, је̏зеро (lake).

The northwestern Albanian city of Shkodër (Skadar) sits at the lake's southeastern end and gives its name to the lake.
