Etymology[edit]
First attested as lambrechtscoch around 1312. Compound of the name of Saint Lambert of Maastricht and Middle Dutch coge (“land located outside of a levee, land next to a watercourse”). The second element was gradually reinterpreted to schage (“copse”) under the influence of nearby Schagen.
