Borrowed from French local, from Latin localis.

Lokal n (strong, genitive Lokales or Lokals, plural Lokale)
- A restaurant, especially when small and/or traditional; a pub that serves hot food; an inn
- (in certain compounds) A room or facility used for public services.
- Wahllokal ― polling station
- Wartelokal ― waiting room
Usage notes[edit]
Note that Lokal is a false friend and does not mean "local". The general word to refer to a "local" is Einheimischer/Einheimischerin if you are referring to a person who was born somewhere and has always lived there.
