From Greek Νεάπολη (Neápoli), from νέα (néa, new) + πόλη (póli, city) and from Ancient Greek Νεάπολις (Neápolis), from νέα (néa) + πολις (polis). Doublet of Nabeul, Nablus, Naples, and Neapolis.
