Etymology[edit]

Named after Japanese molecular biologist Reiji Okazaki (1930–1975), the leader of its discoverers in the 1960s.

  1. (genetics, often in the plural) One of many short, newly synthesized DNA fragments formed on the lagging template strand (i.e. lagging strand) during DNA replication.
