Noun[edit]

Pantanal cat (plural Pantanal cats)

  1. Any of species Leopardus braccatus (sometimes subspecies Leopardus colocola braccatus) of cats of tropical South America.
    • 2010, Scott Stevenson, Cocoa and Objective-C: Up and Running, O'Reilly, page 397:
The Pampas cat was distinguished as its own species in 2005, along with the Pantanal cat (Leopardus braccatus), but taxonomists still disagree about whether there is enough biological difference to validate the move.

Usage notes[edit]

Long regarded as a subspecies of colocolo; its status as a separate species is not supported by genetic analysis. See Pantanal cat on Wikipedia.Wikipedia
