Etymology[edit]
From the specific epithet of Chelone pentstemon, the name used by Carl Linnaeus for Penstemon laevigatus, a blend of Ancient Greek πεντα- (penta-, “five”) + στήμων (stḗmōn, “thread”), because of its sterile fifth stamen (staminode).[1]
