German[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from English pop star, equivalent to Pop (pop) +‎ Star (star).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ˈpɔpˌstaːɐ̯], [ˈpɔpˌʃtaːɐ̯]
  • (file)
  • Hyphenation: Pop‧star

Noun[edit]

Popstar m (strong, genitive Popstars, plural Popstars)

  1. pop star

Usage notes[edit]

  • The Suffix -in usually creates the female form for many nouns for living beings. However, this is not always the case when the term is borrowed from another language. In case of "Popstar" the female form is "weiblicher Popstar".
