From Latin Poseidonia, from Ancient Greek Ποσειδωνία (Poseidōnía); or directly from Greek Ποσειδωνία (Poseidonía). From Ποσειδῶν (Poseidôn) +‎ -ία (-ía). Equivalent to Poseidon +‎ -ia.
