From *kunos, from Proto-Celtic *kunos, stem of *kū (dog) + pennom, from Proto-Celtic *kʷennom. Compare Primitive Irish ᚉᚒᚅᚐᚉᚓᚅᚅᚔ (cunacenni, genitive), the exact same formation.
