From Proto-Indo-European *tata-, whence also Proto-Armenian *tat(a), Armenian տատի (tati, տատա), Latvian tēte, Lithuanian tė̃tis, Old Prussian thetis, Proto-Slavic *tata, Proto-Celtic *tato-, Proto-Hellenic *tata, and Proto-Indo-Iranian *tātás.
