Proto-Algonquian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

This is one of only two terms which point to č and t being distinct phonemes (as opposed to allophones) outside of clusters; the other is the very questionable word *ti·nti·wa (quod vide).

Verb[edit]

*čapo·nk-

  1. to splash

Descendants[edit]

  • Central Algonquian:
    • Menominee: capu·q (splash! sound of something falling into water)
