Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *bʰask- (bundle)[1] or non-Indo-European source.[2] Cognate with Latin fascis (bundle, faggot), and perhaps Ancient Greek φάσκωλος (pháskōlos, leathern bag, sack), Albanian bashkë (fleece).
